RE: Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real Deal

2008, F350, Lariat, 4x4, CC, SB, SRW, 6.4D, Auto trans. 20" tires, Roll N Lock tonuea cover, 16K super glider hitch, Bed rug. Trucks Specs.: Actual Weight ready to camp Me wife etc.: Gawr Front 5600 Front 5280 Diff -320 Gawr Rear 6900 Rear 5940 -960 Gvwr 11400 11220 -180 GCVWR 23000 22000 -1000 Tires LD range E 20" 3750 Total Trailer Weight 13020 Pin Weight 2240 Percent of total weight 17.3% Sorry didn't get truck weighed as it came from Factory but App 8000- 8100 full of fuel. Trailer is a 2007 Cameo F34ck3 Actual weight was ready to camp : Full fuel, wife, dog (Simon), all tools, water in camper 35 Gals, black & gray tanks 25gals each, full propane, food etc.. Wow just did a preview and my nice colums are gone. Maybe this will help. First set of numbers are the trk spec, the second are the actual weight and the third are the difference. Hope you make it out. The Weight Police should be happy I'm under on everything. I could shift some weight up front for more pin weight, but it seems to pull just fine. Simons Buddy

RE: More Ethanol Fuel for the Fire

Hey rob, Todays opening Chicago Board of Trade price is $7.83 not $20. Local cash price to farmer in my area $6.36. This mornings prices 05-01-2008 at 10:52 EST. MOst of the food increase is due to fuel cost not corn cost. Interesting topic. Simons Buddy

Thinking of getting a Garmin 760.

I curently rum MS S&T on a laptop. I am getting a new truck and the DW would like to get the laptop stand out of her way. I've been told by salespeople, that I can get Mapsource and plan my trips just like I have with S&T then download them into the 760. Is this correct? Has anybody planned a trip with Mapsource, if so is it as good or better than than MS S&T? Any other tips, help etc would be appreciated. Happy Camping Simons Buddy

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Last night at dinner a friend who has a GM gasser ( I didn't ask the size) asked me what kind of mileage I get with my 2003 D/A. I just completed a trip from Ohio to NC up some steep hills etc. Hand calculated 11.7 for entire trip. He said he averaged 8-9 mostly in Ohio. I pull about 1000# more than him. This got me to thinking ( a dangerous thing ), with the cost of gas less than diesel how much more mpg does a diesel have to have to equal a gassers same cost. Now better math guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I came up with: Today's prices at a Murphy Oil station this morning: Gas = 3.40 diesel 4.03: Formula Gas MPG : Gas price = x : diesel price: Gas Mpg 8 @ 3.4 is the same as diesel mpg 9.48 @ 4.03 12 14.22 16 18.96 My conclusion if a diesel can get 2-3 mpg better than gas @ a .60 difference in price, the fuel cost are the same. So will I give up diesel. Nope If the spread widens? Nope, but the gasser guys have a good argument, and I hope there gassers pull long and hard. That way were all happy with our trucks. RE: My Unofficial Tow Vehicle Survey.

Sorry again Flybaby, but I got to stop this. In my original rant I thought I made it clear , but obviously not, that I wanted a truck just like my 2500 but with a bigger payload or higher gvwr. The F350 come in a srw,sb, and is only 6 inches longer, so I got my wish. Although I would prefer it if GM had one, but it doesn't. I was then told that the Ford would not carry anymore than than the GM. I proved that it would. I know I'm camparing apples to oranges, BUT GM DOESn't MAKE APPLES, thus my rant!!! Please enough!! PM me if you think I'm full of it or what ever. But let flybaby have his thread back. Simons Buddy

RE: My Unofficial Tow Vehicle Survey.

flybaby 3 I do apologize to you that my rant has side tracked your OP with another weight controversy. I will not respond to any more weight questions on this thread. PM me or start another thread, but let's get this one back on track. Because we know Ford is gonna win!!:W Happy Camping Simons Buddy

RE: My Unofficial Tow Vehicle Survey.

Ok my point is: Of the three truck I've bought since 1996, and was interested in the payload, weight carring capacity, or what ever you want to call it. The GVWR has always been lower than the sum of the gawr and tire rating. Yes, you must never go over any one componets weight. Now what I was really trying to defend was that a F350 srw etc. has more payload than a 2500 GMC of basically the same out side demensions. Now when I get my new truck I will load it all up and weigh it and give you all the info. Then we will know for sure weather a Ford F350 will handle my trailer better than my Gmc 2500. Can we go back to the survey Simon Buddy

RE: My Unofficial Tow Vehicle Survey.

Now boys I now your just pulling my chain, since I just bought a new Ford. But in case your not just funnin me here's the scoop from the door of a F350 like I ordered: Gawr front 6000# Gawr rear 6900# = 12900. Wow that's more than the 11400 gvwr. Oh I almost forgot tires Max load for E Range 20" tires 3750 x 4 = 15000#. So I guess since the GVWR is less than the posted tire and GAWR it means something. Ford has a tolerance built in just like GMC. My above figures stand. Back to my original statement that for a truck just a little longer than my present 2500 I get a lot more payload. Now as for pin weight or payload you simply take your truck and weigh it with all your tools, grandkids, dog, Wife, and anything else extra, weigh it subtract it form the GVWR and that is your max payload or pin weight. It's been fun. Now congratulate me on my new truck and lets get back to the survey. Oh on my way to the dealers to get the door information I passed 3 fivers, 2 GM and a Ford. Gees I just can't win. RE: My Unofficial Tow Vehicle Survey.

Cat320, I'm not sure about your numbers and tires on each truck. I am sure that the new Ford I drove and weighed, F350 Srw, cc 4x4 diesel sb automatic, pretty well decked with about 3/4 tank of fuel and my fat a$$ weighed 7960# add 300# for my hitch and it =8260 the gvwr 11400 this leaves a payload of 3140. Now my current 2003 2500 see sig. weighs 7500 with me and a full tank of gas and hitch. With a gvwr of 9200, this leaves 1700 payload. Now I know you are going to say that the 3500 drw has a 11400 payload, well I don't want a dually and I'm sure a dually 3500 would weigh close to the Ford Srw F350, So same payload or maybe a little less, 2 less tires it's no contest. As I said before, come on GM you have an engine and transmission, now build a truck to go with them. Simons Buddy

RE: Emergency Road Service

I just had to use my GS ERS. I was going up a 14% grade in NC and lost my injectors. Long story short is. At 2 pm on Saturday afternoon the day before Easter. Good Sam had us a wrecker in 1.5 hrs. He towed the Fiver and truck up the rest of the mountain and into the campground. My cost: zero I'm very satisfied with the response and follow up. I will stay with Good Sams. I have not used other services so cannot compare. Simons Buddy

RE: 2003 Silverado 2500 HD Duramax

I'm sure it is , but make sure the injector warranty is transferable. I just put in my second set at 98,000 miles. Other than that it's a great truck. Don't know about the price. Good luck.

RE: My Unofficial Tow Vehicle Survey.

Hey Ihenry8113, Sorry for the late reply, but I was serious, I just got back from ordering a new F350 6.4 diesel. I was really suprised how quite the Ford is. I just hope the engine and motor equal the D/A. Gm is really missing the boat. Simons Buddy

RE: My Unofficial Tow Vehicle Survey.

As a long time GM man, and soon to be a Ford man, I'm not surprised at your results. A F350 srw, sb, 4x4, 6.4, cc, has a 11400 GVWR. It's only 6" longer than a GMC 2500 with only a 9200 GVWR. Basically the same size, out side dimension, truck with more pay load. Which would you want to pull a heavy trailer. By the way a GMC 3500 dually has only 11400 GVWR. Come on GM you have an engine and transmission, NOW BUILD A TRUCK. Sorry rant is over, I'm now going to my new Ford dealer and order a new truck.

Ford in dash Navigation System

I did a search with out results, so does anyone have experience with the above in a 2008. I currently use my laptop and Street and Trips, but the computer stand is a minor source of irritation to the wife. Can you plan trips on it via the laptop then plug it into the dash unit or is it only from this point to that? Thanks Simons Buddy

RE: Weight of 2008 King Ranch Diesel

David, Thanks for the link. I couldn't find the weight of the auto transmission there or else where. I think this would add a lot of weight to the vehicle. Also cat320 said they have the weight of on the tire info sticker in the door. Is this the actual weight of the truck as ir sits on the lot or is this their curb weight which means nothing unless it's a strpped down model. As I stated above I don't have one with in a hours drive for me to look at. Just trying to do some home work before making a long drive for nothing. Thanks simmons buddy

Weight of 2008 King Ranch Diesel

Can anyone give me there actual weight of a King ranch, CC, sb, diesel, auto trans, pretty much loaded, SRW. I'm thinking of buying one and need to know what I will have for a pin weight. None of the dealers close to me have one on the lot, so a trip to the scales is not an option at this time. I have been told that Ford post the weights of there trucks with options included on there web site, but I have not been able to find it. Thanks simons buddy
